Haptic media construction and utilization of human-harmonized "tangible" information environment

چکیده
Our project is based on our proposed haptic primary color theory, and our aim is to construct an intelligent information environment that is both visible and tangible, and integrates real-space communication, a human–machine interface, and media processing. We have succeeded in transmitting fine haptic sensations such as material texture and temperature from an avatar robot’s fingers to a human user’s fingers. The avatar robot is a telexistence anthropomorphic robot dubbed TELESAR V with body and limbs having 53 degrees of freedom. This robot can transmit visual and auditory sensations of presence to human users, in addition to haptic sensations. Other results of this research project include RePro3D, a full-parallax, autostereoscopic 3D (three-dimensional) display with haptic feedback using RPT (retroreflective projection technology); TECHTILE Toolkit, a prototyping tool for the design and education of haptic media; and Haptic Editor, an interactive editing system for creating haptic-enabled 3D content.

Navigating Information Space with Tangible Media
Navigational Blocks is a tangible user interface that facilitates retrieval of historical stories in a tourist spot. Orientations, movements, and relative positions of physical Blocks support visitor navigation and exploration in a virtual gallery of information. The goal is to bridge the gap and explore the boundary between the physical environment with a virtual information space. Visitors to...
متن کاملThe effect of tangible media on individuals in business process modeling – a controlled experiment
In current practice, business processes modeling is done by trained method experts. Domain experts are interviewed to elicit their process information but not involved in modeling. We created a haptic toolkit for process modeling that can be used in process elicitation sessions with domain experts. We hypothesize that this leads to more effective process elicitation. This paper brakes down ”eff...

متن کاملInteraction Sound Feedback in a Haptic Virtual Environment to Improve Motor Skill Acquisition
This paper describes the concept and the realisation of a research prototype of a haptic environment that is enhanced with sound feedback to impart implicit knowledge and to teach motor skills to trainees. The sound feedback is to be understood as an additional feedback that provides information to the trainee about his or her actions in relation to objects in a virtual haptic environment. Alth...
متن کاملObject Design Considerations for Tangible Musical Interfaces
In this paper we describe object design considerations for the reacTable* project, a novel tangible musical instrument, developed at the Audiovisual Institute at the Universiat Pompeu Fabra. The work presented in this paper is the result of a collaboration with the Palpable Machines Group at Media Lab Europe, which focussed on haptic design aspects of the reacTable* instrument. We present a sim...
